What’s the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Good question! It’s sometimes hard to say where the line is between the two. Counselling tends to be shorter-term and focused on a particular issue or behaviour; psychotherapy is longer-term and goes deeper into how we function, drawing upon our histories and our patterns to explore what we want and don’t want for ourselves. In both we explore how we manage and use ourselves in the present. I use the term therapy for both counselling and psychotherapy, and therapist for counsellor and psychotherapist.
